There are a wide variety of shops and galleries in Vail and Beaver Creek, but this is not a place for bargain hunters.

Among art galleries of note are Vail Fine Art, Vail Village Crossroads Center, 141 E. Meadow Dr. (tel. 970/476-2900; www.vailfineart.com), with beautiful sculptures and fine paintings; and Artesia Gallery, 232 Wall St. (tel. 888/321-3800 or 970/476-9800), featuring paintings that range from realistic landscapes to Impressionism.

Other interesting shops include Noel the Christmas Shop, in the Sitzmark Building, 183-2 Gore Creek Dr. (tel. 970/476-6544), with unusual nutcrackers and exclusive ornaments, including the work of Christopher Radko; Currents, 285 Bridge St. (tel. 970/476-3322), offering original designs in platinum, gold, and silver jewelry plus fine Swiss watches; and Kitchen Collage, at Riverwalk, the Crystal Building, Edwards (tel. 970/926-0400; www.kitchencollage.com), which carries fine cookware, gourmet foods, linens, and a multitude of handy gadgets.
